485 Gandhi Look alike set Guinness World Record in Koljatta, W.Bengal India
Participants between 10-16 yrs old, most of whom are from single mothers, walked for half a kilometre distance at Mayo Road in central Kolkata, all dressed up as Mahatma Gandhi- re-enacting the famous Dandi Salt march. Jan 30 is also the Death anniv. Of Mahatma Gandhi (1948)
Guinness Book officials awarded the world record certificate to the UK-based organisers TRACKS (Training Recourse and Care for Kids).
The last record was in June 2010 with 255 students in Coimbatore in S. India

Following pppulist unrest by Pro- Democracy citizens, started upon the arrest of Chief Judge of the Maldives Criminal Court on Jan 16th, about 100 officers of the Police and the Maldives National Defence Force, joined a group of anti-government protesters and seized power.
President Nasheed gave up his seat in a relatively peaceful overthrow,and announced the resignation in a broadcast, VP Dr Mohammed Waheed was sworn as new President,in a peaceful transfer of power to Democratic forces in the capital city of Male.

SAHARA ENDS Financial Ties with India Cricket- BCCI & IPL(Pube Warriors)
The Indian cricket team's longtime sponsor Sahara India ended financial ties with the BCCI and also pulled out of the IPL by withdrawing from Pune Warriors' ownership just hours before the players' auction.
Sahara, which has been the team sponsor for 11 years, signed a renewed agreement with the BCCI on July 1, 2010 till December 31, 2013. Sahara was paying Rs 3.34 crore($33.4 million) per Test match, one-day international and Twenty20 International under the new terms.

Pakistan is directly helping the Taliban in their fight against the elected government in war-ravaged Afghanistan, BBC
The BBC, citing a secret North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) report, alleges that Pakistan Govt. knows the locations of senior Taliban leaders , reported BBC
The NATO document is based on material from 27,000 interrogations with more than 4,000 captured Taliban, Al Qaeda and other foreign fighters and civilians.which clearly exposes the relationship between Pakistani spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence and the Taliban.
>>"Pakistan's manipulation of the Taliban senior leadership continues unabatedly. Pakistan is aware of the locations of senior Taliban leaders," the document says.
It quotes a senior Al Qaeda detainee as saying, "Pakistan knows everything. They control everything. I can't (expletive) on a tree in Kunar without them watching. The Taliban are not Islam. The Taliban are Islamabad."
The NATO report states, "As this document is derived directly from insurgents it should be considered informational and not necessarily analytical."

Nancy J Powell, a career diplomat is the next Ambassador to India the first woman to be nominated for the post.
Powell, 64, will replace Timothy J Roemer, who resigned from his post in April 2011 after serving 2years as US envoy to India (Peter Burleigh is currently serving as the Charge d'affaires of the US embassy in India)
Ms.Powell, a career diplomatic Senior Foreign Service member is currently serving as Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources at the Department of State.
Ms.Powell has served as Ambassador to Nepal (2007-2009), Ambassador to Pakistan (2002-2004), Ambassador to Ghana (2001-2002), and Ambassador to Uganda (1997-1999)
