INDIAN
AMERICANS
RUNNING
FOR
POLITICAL
OFFICE
Its
that time og the year again- with primaries over, the serious
candidates for office are now gearing up for the final election in
NOVEMBER 2010
Although NOT an election year, the way the last three residents
and Parties tussled it out- makes for a heightened activity for most
State and Federal races.
So far The Indian American representation is elected
political office has been dismal with only recenyly some high profile
folks like BOBBY JINDAL and others making a wave.
This trend seems ready to be changed-
especially with the arrival of President Barrack Obama who it seems has
APPOINTED many many Indina -Americans tp key positions in his
administration- so the genies is out of the Bootle- and USA politics
here we come
Along with several LOCAL CITY, COUNTY
OFFICIALS in the fray eg Like Ms ANU
NATARAJAN- City Council member of
Fremont -(incumbent) the largest enclave of Indians in America -
as the 1st Indian
American ELECTED to public office here (Northern California) is UP FOR
REELECTION Along with 5 others for two vacant seats currently-
ANU NATARAJAN;s candidacy got a small boost when Teenager ISHANT SHAH
dropped out of the City Council seat and opted to run for OHLONE
COMMUNICTY COLLEGE Board.
Here aresome of the The 2010
Candidate around the country as of now
 * Nimrata
“Nikki” Haley (R) -Governor: South
Carolina
* Kamala Harris (D) - CA Attorney General:
Democratic Nominee- Won primary
US CONGRESS
OTHER RACES
PEACE BY ANY SYMBOL IS STILL THE SAME
|
ALL POLITICS IS
LOCAL- Dot Forget That
IN the USA there is truly participatory
Democracy especially at all LOCAL
ISSUES and LOCAL LEVEl ELECTIONS. Get Involved.
In SF Bay area we have
* Pragati
Grover,
Saratoga, CA, City Council Saratoga,
CA After the unfortunate and untimely demise of recently
elected City Council member Susie Vedantham Nagpal- Pragati has a good
chcnce of being elected.
* Subra Bhatt
- City Council member, Union City, CA A
first time entrant for Three (3) open positions in a crowded field of 9
candidates
* Nadeem
Mohammed - City Council
member, Santa Clara, CA A
slightly
tall
order
for
the
Indian american in the heart of Silicon
Valley
* Ishan Shah,
Fremont, CA, Trustee Ohlone

CA
* Inder
KallRai CALPErs Board- Sacramento- CA State

* Aaruni Thakur - Fullerton CA Fullerton School Board Member in
CA.
* Nimish Patel - Santa Monica, CA Santa
Monica-Malibu
Unified
School
District
Board
Member,
Santa
Monica,CA.
Whether School Board Elections or City
Council- There are many worthy people running - Chose a candidate and GET
INVOLVED.
With President OBAMA Blessing the Indina-American Community with
record number of Appointments- the pandora's box has opened. Both
with President OBAMA's election itself- the fact that many naysayers
could not see past his skin color- itself gave a HUGE boost of
Confidence to all Americans of Color and Minrity Status.
Earlier indicators of BOBBY JUINDAL etc were dismissed as Blips
but American peiople DID prove that Utility and Commitment and Merit
does PLAY A ROLE and may even get you in position of power.Given some
time and effort.
All one can do is to whole heartedly reciprocate and particpate.
GOYLE
&
BERA MAKE STRONG RUN FOR US
CONGRESS
* Raj Goyle
(D) - Kansas, 4th Congressional District. WINS Primary in August 3rd Serious
candidate'
Jay Goyle has paid his dues and one of his plus points was the
turnaround victory 2004 when as a Democrat in a heavily Republican
district- Goyle managed to unseat local Assemblyman. He has
consolidated his position and WON his primary and a nod from the
Democratic National Comm. Wish him Well!
* Ami Bera
(D) - California, 3rd Congressional District.Democratic nominees
and won primary.
Dr Bera who is aPhysician and also on Board of leading Medical Board in
California has made waves by raising a large warchest. Dr BEra- a very
impressive personality- is making the rounds and has impressed
many people. His fight in the newly redistricted District 3rd Cong
District- is an interesting one- as his Challenger is a Senior
Congressman DAN LUNGREN (R).
Both have raised sunstatial monye and both GOP and DNC
have targetted the race.
Here is wishing Dr AMIBERA well.
SATVEER CHOUDHARY
LOSES PRIMARY -
In an Upset-
long term Democrat State Senator SATVEER CHAUDHARY in
Minneapolis, Minnesota was defeated in the primary elections by
Ex Rep BARB GOODWIN
While Chaudhary hadChoudhary had represented
the area well recently he was in trouble after he lost his DFL Party
endorsement a month ago and also acknowledgeed default for $250,000 in
Taxes etc Choudhary was one of the longest and higher ranked Indian-
American in office in the USA.
