HAIL INDIA'S SPACE PROGRAM MOON SHOT  CHANDRAYAAN-1
The indigenous space program of India added another feather to their cap (or turban) by a successful launch of their 1st Unmanned Moon Probe the Chandrayaan which lifted off from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh on Oct 21,2008.
ISRO Space program india moon probe Sam Rao Indian AmericanChandrayaan lifted-off at 0620 hours on board the indigenous built rocket, PSLV-C11, from the spaceport of Sriharikota on the east coast in Andhra Pradesh, some 100 km north of Chennai. The event marks India's entry into small group of nations, capable of exploring the Moon the European Space Agency (ESA), Japan, China, the US and Russia/USSRISRO Space program india moon probe Sam Rao Indian American
Chandrayaan-1 carries 11 payloads (scientific instruments) - five from India, three from ESA, two from the US and one from Bulgaria.
The 1380-kg Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft will first reach a highly elliptical Initial orbit and thereafter the satellite's Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) will be fired at appropriate moments that will finally take it to an orbit at a height of 100 km around the moon around November eight.
The mission will undertake remote-sensing of the moon in the visible, near infrared, microwave and X-ray regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Thus a three-dimensional atlas of the lunar surface will be mapped.
"Basically, this (Chandrayaan-1) is meant for a comprehensive mapping of the lunar surface. Earlier missions (by others) focused on specific regions or looked at one aspect or other only. It's for the first time (in the world) that we will have the entire lunar surface mapped up" said ISRO Chairman G Madhavan Nair.

Oct 19 Colin Powell Chooses Obama
Colin Powell
Retired General Colin Powell, a firmer Secretary of  State for President Bush has endorsed Sen. Barrack Obama as the next US President.
While this has been seen as a nail in the coffin of GOP Republican McCain's chances, and the continuation of Bush-Cheney policies, Colin Powell's stature and role has definitely diminished and been tainted.
Chosen as a Soldier who would do the Commander in Chief's bidding, Colin Powell was used to parlay his substantial stature, likability and believability to sell the IS war in Iraq.
Kinda suckered in, Powell opted to play stooge, even after realizing that the mess in Iraq was based on a lie, and one he helped perpetuate and even convince many at the United Nations.
So an endoresement but a tainted one at that
In his effort to shore up International relations, in an unofficial capacity, General Colin Powell has spent lots of time recently in Africa.Colin Powell hip hop
Here he is doing the hip hop ie the Colin Powell Hip Hop in S.Africa...too bad he has not adopted an Afro sounding or Jamaican sounding name to stay true to his heritage.
Along with being drilled by the US Army, for a long time probably Gen Colin Powell forgot that he was Black only to be remonded of it occassionally )no doubt)...Just like CONDI RICE....but thats another story!!!

ARAVIND ADIGA WINS MAn BOOKER PRIIZE FOR BOOK The white Tiger
Aeavind arvng=d adiga booker Prize Indian-american sam rao   Arvind Aaravind Adiga booker prize Sam rao Indian-American
Aravind Adiga has won this year's Man Booker Prize with his debut novel The White Tiger.
The award, which honors the best fiction written in English by an author from the UK, Ireland or the Commonwealth
The 33-year-old Indian-born writer was also the youngest author on the shortlist for the £50,000 prize.Congrats are in order to the young author, a resident of Mumbai and who had a stint in the S as well.
Poverty i guess still sells, as 'The White Tiger', a tale of two India's, tells the story of Balram, the son of a rickshaw puller in the heartlands, one of the "faceless" poor left behind by the country's recent economic boom.
"I like books that have ideas in them and that move and entertain.and the book charts his journey from working in a teashop to entrepreneurial success. It's a quest to break out of the circumstances you find yourself in - it's a quest for freedom," said Adiga, adding it was a kind of book he would like to read.He said the book was set in today's India and "revolves around the great divide between those Indians who have made it and those who have not. At the heart of the book it is something existential. It's a quest to break out of the circumstances you find yourself in - it's a quest for freedom."
In the words of Head judge Michael Portillo "In many ways it was the perfect book."of the Man Booker prize,  "My criteria were 'Does it knock my socks off?' and this one did ... the others impressed me ... this one knocked my socks off." Mr Portillo said what set the book apart was its originality in showing "the dark side of India".
Adiga is only the fourth person to win with their first book, after Arundhati Roy, Keri Hulme and DBC Pierre. At 33, he's one of the youngest winners in the 40 years of the contest..
Adiga beat favorite Sebastian Barry, Amitav Ghosh, Steve Toltz, Linda Grant and Philip Hensher. According to industry experts, the win means he can expect an upturn in sales and added recognition. According to BBAC/Amazon.co.uk, the six books enjoyed average sales rises of 700% following the announcement of the shortlist last month.
Adiga dedicated the award to "the people of New Delhi" and said "Making it to the shortlist on a first novel is sort of like winning and anything beyond that is quite a bonus," Adiga said. Adiga is a former correspondent for Time magazine and has written for the Independent, and the Sunday Times.\

In a sad commentary of  States interest and greater good vs Politicking, the RATAN TATA idea of an affordable car NANO for $2,500 ( Rs 1 Lakh)) saw the END oF THE ROAD in Kolkatta/S Singur -  West Bengal.
This short lived experiment with capitalism - for a change- saw the Communist government of West Bengal face the brunt of agitations FOR landless laborers.
While the grievances of landless workers, whose land was annexed by the State government remains tio be solved equitable, seems that such important details SHOULD have been addressed by the ruling Communist Givernment of West Bengal ( which is democratically elected in India just FYI)
Ms Mamta Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress, who led the agitations is an opportunist and has succeeded in screwing up India's image as a viable destination for Corporations both domestic and foreign.
While the debate and controversy goes on including the blame game, INDIA Inc neds to look into ALL ASPECTS so such mega land deals for MNC's and Corporations etc and MAKE SURE the peoples welfare and interest are ALSO  central and taken into account.

After the Pokhran nuclear test by India in 1974, the US had imposed trade sanctions along with several countries, which India often referred to as "Nuclear Apartheid".
India did not support the NPT Non Proliferation Treaty- citing that the "haves" were imposing a ban on other developing countries' technologies and instead tried to promote CTBT  the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, applicable to ALL Nuclear nations,  which iitially was rejected by the already Nuclear countries
This final bill passed the US Senate in a bipartisan display of support just as earlier in the US House of Representatives that passed the agreement on Saturday,Sept 27th. The latest US Senate vote now means President Bush can sign it into law.
